BMI stands for Body Mass Index and is used in the medical field to screen for weight categories that may lead to health concerns. Categories include underweight, normal, overweight, and obese.

How Does Weight Loss Injection Therapy Work?

This weekly injection is a Glucagon-Like Peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonist. Historically, these types of medications have been used to treat Type II Diabetes. Clinical trials have shown that adults taking Semaglutide lost an average of almost 15% of their initial body weight and was then FDA approved as a weight loss injection.  Since 2021, GLP-1 agonists have been used to treat obesity. It is not clear how the drug leads to weight loss, but health care professionals know that GLP-1 agonists help curb hunger, slow the movement of food from the stomach into the small intestines resulting in feeling full faster and longer. Therefore, you eat less resulting in weight loss.
